New Hire Spotlight: Michael Ben-Tov

Our haku team is growing quickly! The newest member of the team is Michael Ben-Tov. Born and raised in Miami in a half-Israeli, half-Cuban family. He joins us as an Associate Software Engineer with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Florida International University. Let’s get to know Michael.

What is your role with haku?

I am an Associate Software Engineer and right now I am working on all different parts of the app, learning new things about the codebase and learning from other developers on the team.

Where would you see yourself in 5-10 years?

In 5-10 years, I see myself enjoying my career and working on cool projects.

What is a professional skill or a hobby you would like to learn?

As a hobby, I’d like to get more into powerlifting.

What is your idea of a perfect day?

My idea of a perfect day is going to work, learning a lot and making progress on my tasks, cracking some jokes with my coworkers. Then after work, lifting weights or training Jiu Jitsu and spending time with my family.

What is your favorite place you have traveled to?

My favorite place I have traveled to is Israel because the food is delicious, the activities are fun, and the historic sites are really cool. 

What is it like to grow up in such a unique multicultural family? 

Being raised in a multicultural family, with Israeli and Cuban roots, I was exposed to a rich blend of traditions and values. Each culture brought its own flavor, but at its core, both taught me the importance of family, resilience, and finding joy in the simple moments.

Do you have any fun or unique family traditions?

Every Friday evening, as a family tradition, we gather for a feast. Our grandmother, who is Bulgarian, serves Eastern European and Middle Eastern dishes. Beyond the delicious meals, these dinners are our time to bond, laugh, and catch up with one another.
